Open Heavens

This skyscape was the view out of the client's window on a late afternoon, and she wanted to bring it inside the house, all the colour and majesty of it.

The colours in this one absolutely glowed. But the best of it came afterwards. As the afternoon sun crossed the room and fell on the painting, the very light that had made that sky in the first place would light the work up on the wall and bring it to life again. Her delight in that was a lovely thing to hear.

Landscapes have been part of my commission work for a long time. The Richardson Hotel in West Perth took 225 of them, all drawn from the flora and country of Western Australia. A sky for one woman's living room is a smaller thing, but it comes from the same place.
